New Restaurant Alert: Havens Harborside Brings Fresh Catch and Prime Cuts to Ma’alaea Harbor

Ma’alaea Harbor just got better with the addition of Havens Harborside Fish & Chophouse. As someone who’s spent countless hours diving these waters, I know how special this location is – right where humpback whales breach during winter months and fishing boats bring in their daily catch.

Local Chef Zach Sato leads the kitchen, crafting dishes that highlight Maui’s best ingredients. The restaurant sits in the recently updated Ma’alaea Harbor Shops, offering air-conditioned comfort (trust me, you’ll appreciate this on hot Ma’alaea days) and harbor views.

Local Tips

  1. Make reservations, especially for dinner. Call 808-214-6503 or email info@havensmaui.com
  2. Request a window table for harbor views
  3. The kimchee crab rangoons sell out fast during happy hour
  4. Try the poi falafel – it’s a clever local twist on a Mediterranean classic

The menu bridges local and high-end dining without being stuffy. Chef Sato sources from Maui farms and fishers, supporting local businesses while ensuring maximum freshness. The kitchen handles both fish and meat with equal skill – something rare even in Hawai’i.

Havens Harborside fills a needed gap in Ma’alaea’s dining scene. With its central location, varied menu, and mix of local ingredients with refined techniques, it works equally well for special occasions or post-beach meals. The addition of free valet parking and air conditioning makes it practical and comfortable year-round.

Reservations recommended, especially during whale season (December-April) when Ma’alaea gets extra busy. Even if you don’t have a reservation, try your luck at the bar during happy hour – the ocean views and pupus (appetizers) make it worth the stop.
