We took the Pride of Maui sunset dinner cruise from Maalaea with our two kids. We love being on the water during sunset, and this is one of many Maui boats we’ve been on.
SPOILER: If you’re looking for a relaxing, fun, scenic way to spend a night in Maui, this hits the mark. It checks all the boxes. Great for couples as well as families.
Good food, great views, fun crew. We’ll be doing it again.
Boarding
We parked at the dirt lot just a few steps away from the boarding area near the Coast Guard. I was really happy to see that it wasn’t crowded. They cap the number of people so everyone has space to move around, grab food, and actually see the view. No squeezing into corners or elbowing for pictures. That alone made it feel worth it. This is a double decker catamaran, so we found our selves alone in different areas of the boat again and again.
Food & Drink
The food was exceptional. It was buffet-style, but it didn’t feel like throwaway tourist food. We had tasty ribs, grilled shoyu chicken, mahi and plenty of sides. I’m a sucker for Molokai sweet potatoes. Fresh, well-cooked, and served hot. Even our picky eater found something he liked.
Also, the bar is included in the ticket price. No upcharges for drinks. Beer, wine, and mixed drinks flowed the whole time, and the bartenders knew what they were doing.
The Crew
The crew was relaxed but professional. You could tell they’ve done this hundreds of times, as they knew when we needed something. Warm smiles and attentive service for the win!
Entertainment
Kekoa played music for us from the beginning to the end. Sometimes live music can be too loud and overbearing, but it he set a perfect tone with some serious skill and a few fun stories about island life.
Kaili’s hula performance came about halfway through. She is truly talented! You can tell she’s been with a halau since a very young age. It was beautiful.
The cruise lasted about two hours. We got back around 7:30. That gave us a full sunset (which was spectacular), plus time to eat, hang out on the top deck, and take photos. No rush. The boat was clean and steady, and no one got seasick, which is always a win with kids. Everyone had a great time, and we even made a few new friends. Mahalo, Pride of Maui!
