Maui Coast Hotel is a diamond in the rough. Who knew that finding a hotel in Kihei – one of the busiest tourism towns on Maui – would be so hard?

Fortunately, we stumbled upon the Maui Coast Hotel in a sea of condos and vacation rentals. It’s now one of our favorite places to stay on Maui, thanks to its perfect location, great restaurants, amenities, and simplicity.

The Location

It’s hard to beat the Maui Coast Hotel’s location. It’s close to everything in Kihei.

A short walk down the street in either direction will lead you to two fantastic beach parks: Kamaole I and Charley Young. Kalama Park and Kihei Kalama Village are only a little over a half mile to the north – where you’ll find surfing, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and more. A short walk or drive to the south leads you to more epic beaches and some of Kihei’s most popular eateries (like Coconut’s Fish Cafe and 808 Deli).

Plus, it’s easy to get to Pi’ilani Highway from the Maui Coast Hotel, so you can easily explore the island without fighting through traffic on South Kihei Road. We’ve stayed elsewhere in South Maui in the past, but this hotel felt like the most convenient.

The Restaurants

Kihei Caffe is our favorite breakfast spot on Maui. It had been a couple of years since our last visit, so we didn’t realize Kihei Caffe had opened a location in the Maui Coast Hotel. Talk about a serendipitous surprise! The Maui Coast Hotel location is bigger and more modern, with the same breakfast menu. Plus, the people-watching is great from the outdoor tables.

We also spent a few evenings listening to live music at Hanohano Pool Bar, which is a great place to talk story with South Maui locals. Kihei Caffe supplies the food at Hanohano, too.

We’re especially looking forward to coming back later this year because the Maui Coast Hotel is opening another favorite Maui restaurant, Miso Phat Sushi. We love how the Maui Coast Hotel offers space for existing local businesses to expand rather than creating an entirely new restaurant concept. This makes it even easier for visitors to support local.

The Amenities

Maui Coast Hotel feels like a small, intimate property, but it actually has a ton of amenities – with even more coming soon. Aside from the two restaurants, the hotel has a tennis court, swimming pool, fitness center, sundries market, and laundry facilities. A shuttle can also take guests around the Kihei and Wailea areas.

Hotel Amenities

The hotel is putting the finishing touches on an expansion, which includes even more amenities like an infinity pool, a poolside food truck, and – like we mentioned above – Miso Phat Sushi.

The Rooms

The rooms are simple, cozy, and stocked with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. There’s a variety of room categories to choose from, so whether you’re a solo traveler or visiting Maui with your family, there’s something for you at the Maui Coast Hotel.

The Maui Coast Hotel has yet to open its new Kai Tower (although they are taking reservations for the back half of 2024). The rooms in the Kai Tower look a bit more modern in design, with cool tones and dark wood furniture. And from the looks of it, there will be some great ocean views from the balconies.

What Else We Love…

The service is as friendly as ever every time we stay here. We love coming back and seeing the same employees year after year.

You also can’t beat the price tag. Some hotels just down the road in Wailea go for $1000 more a night than the Maui Coast Hotel. But if you’re not particular about staying in a fancy five-star resort – and just want to enjoy the sunshine, beaches, and good vibes – then you’re better off staying at Maui Coast Hotel. There’s a reason we keep coming back! Maybe we’ll see you there soon, too.
