See Maui from a Stand Up Paddleboard!
Maui SUP Benefits
One of the most popular and fastest growing water activities in the country, stand up paddleboarding (SUP) comes with tons of positive benefits, both for your body and overall ocean experience on Maui.
First, we love the views! While Maui has amazingly scenic shoreline and 81 gorgeous beaches to choose from, SUP is one of the best ways to see it all for yourself. Head out from popular areas of south Maui to see Turtle Town or take a tour of some of Kihei and Wailea’s best beaches, or head west to see the beauty of Olowalu’s famed Coral Gardens.
It’s also one of the most customized ocean activities out there – paddle out only as far as you like, stop for breaks whenever you want, and choose what you want to do during your time on the ocean, whether it’s stopping to snorkel with Hawaiian green sea turtles, taking a refreshing Pacific dip, stand up surfing, whale watching, or simply working on your tan (and abs) from atop your board!
SUP is a low-impact workout, and perfect for all ages and levels of fitness. After only a few minutes of instruction and practice, we had it down to a mostly successful science. It offers a new perspective of the ocean, making it easy to spot tropical fish, turtles, and (during winter months) humpback whales, and is ideal for a fun day out with friends or family.
SUP Options: Lessons, Tours & Rentals
Beginner to Intermediate Levels: SUP Lessons
If you’re trying stand up paddling for the first time, it’s probably best to start with a lesson. While the ocean can take some getting used to, having a private instructor can take the pressure off and ensure you spend more time enjoying the experience than fighting to stand up. We highly recommend private SUP lessons with Maui Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Hawaiian Paddle Sports, which have a ton of experience and happy customers.
Intermediate to Advanced Levels: SUP Tours
If you’re more confident in your abilities to stand up but don’t know where the coolest spots in Maui are, no worries! Simply let a guide show you where to go, as well as teach you all about Hawaiian culture, history, and the marine life you’re likely to see on the adventure. For those new to Maui, this can be the best way to find the most epic SUP spots around the island while perfectly matching your level of comfortability to your level of adventure. Once again, Maui Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Hawaiian Paddle Sports are the go-to’s for this Maui ocean activity.
Advanced Levels: SUP Rentals
So this isn’t your first rodeo, eh? Awesome! For experienced paddlers, or those who have friends to show them around, renting a board is often the best choice. There’s a few things to consider when renting a SUP, however. Do they require you to pick it up? What’s the time limit? Is it going to fit in your rental car? Luckily, Maui Stand Up Paddle Boarding offers rentals, which includes free delivery and pick-up in the Kihei and Wailea areas, and are the newest NAISH inflatable stand up boards, which are extremely lightweight and compact.
